Sports of All Sorts

A great opportunity for boys and girls to try some new sports coupled with classics as well. Sports of All Sorts is an enormously fun way for your child to get exposed to multiple sports along a seasonal theme. Offered by our own terrific Park District of Highland Park, the class is fast moving and fun, emphasizing exercise and good sportsmanship. This class sells out!


Sticky Fingers Cooking

Sticky Fingers Cooking says its THYME to TURNIP the BEET on what KIDS EAT! SFC is a fabulously fun, amazingly awesome, truly tasty after school class. Each class features a yummy healthy globally inspired recipe, and emphasizes safety, skill building and environmental awareness. MINECRAFT PLUS

TechStars grants you access to a PROPRIETARY Minecraft world you can’t get on your own! Learn fundamentals of computer networking through this unique Minecraft experience that also allows you and your friends to work in multiplayer mode as you mine, craft and build together to survive. Working with a partner, use your skills to explore all the secrets the world has to offer, including a mysterious castle filled with challenges. No matter whether you are new to Minecraft or already love the program, this program is for YOU! We will also introduce CODING with Minecraft - learn the building blocks of programming your own Minecraft TURTLES to mine for you!

YOUNG REMBRANDTS ART
(Grades K-1 & 2-5, $140)

This class is customized for our little budding artists to start them earlier in valuing the power and passion of art. Drawing is the bedrock skill required for future artistic success. Drawing is a skill that can be learned by ALL children. The innovative curriculum was developed by a team of artists and educators, tapping into the three modalities children use to learn: visual, auditory and tactile/kinesthetic. Little Rembrandts explores image vocabularies and focuses on developing fine motor skills. Young Rembrandts stretches your child’s mind by exploring cartooning and portraiture, with a concentration in perspective, color theory and art history. STEM FOR YOUNG INVENTORS

The news is abuzz with how the US needs so many more engineers in its future: so get your budding engineer started today! In this hands on workshop, combine observation with a new found familiarity with the scientific method to explore the engineer within. Projects include creating a floatation device that can save lives, devise a bridge that can withstand crushing under its own weight, learn about electricity, make a robotic arm, and build gliders and zip line racers…your child may be able to triumph in the famous “egg drop” contest!


GUITAR HERO CLUB
(Grades 3-5, $)

Want to test if your child wants to play? This is ian inexpensive way to gain access to top teachers but test before you guy those pricey private lessons. Of course, music has been proven to inspire the brain and improve mood and creativity: yet it’s so hard to fit in! Let Red Oak ASC get your child excited about playing an instrument and bring it to you! This class gives a FUN introduction to the basics of guitar. Bring your own guitar, or Dynamic Music can facilitate rental for $50 for the whole session. We had a great experience with Keyboards last winter, and are excited to expand on our music offerings and let your child try guitar for the first time with Red Oak!

MINDFULNESS IN MARTIAL ARTS
(Grades1-3, $)

In this class there is no charge for awesomeness. Experts laud martial arts as great for self confidence, physical fitness, coordination, discipline, concentration and calmness. Class will open with a bow of respect and the character building lesson for the day. Then kids will be guided through Tai Chi, Kung Fu animal forms, and martial arts moves, ending with cool down using Qigong and meditation. Elite Deerfield provider Kung Fu Power instructor Tom Sus will bring an adventure into Chinese philosophy and the secrets of Kung Fu to Red Oak and guide your child to connect their mind and body. WORLD WIDE FOOTBALL

This class is FANTASTIC! Didn’t every child revel in the Women’s Team FIFA Win?!? And some Bears team rebuilding might just get us a win this year! This PDHP facilitated class both practices offensive and defensive strategies for both flag football AND the fundamentals of the world’s most popular sport: Soccer! Top quality PDHP coaches will keep your child engaged while learning the fundamentals in a safe and encouraging sports environment.


JUNIOR ENGINEERS LEGO & ROBOTICS
(Grades K-2 , $)

Junior engineers will learn how to solve problems and build exciting machines. This session will include activities in Aerospace Engineering and LEGO® Robotics. Students will design and build different flying machines like airplanes, rockets, hot air balloons, and much more. Additionally, students will build and program LEGO® WeDo robots using a laptop including robotic creations such as an airplane, flying bird, and more. This amazing class will help children build problem-solving skills and encourage kids to discover how things work. Facilitated by classically trained engineers, start your child’s STEM off right! HAUTE FASHION & CRAFTS
(Grades 2-5, $)

Budding fashionistas learn what it takes to become a designer as they explore the process of Fashion Design & Illustration. Students start with learning skills involved in drawing and designing clothes including measuring, comparing, and finalizing their choices. They will then take their learnings to create projects tie dying, hand sewing and machine sewing (kid-safe). They will adorn their creations with fabric paints, ribbons and even bedazzling. Projects including totes, dresses and accessories will teach participants to take their designs from inspiration to collection. Kids faces shine when they show you their creation! Let your child explore their “fashion mood” in Haute Fashion!

TENNIS

The kids will practice on our own Red Oak courts as they sharpen their skills taught by actual Deer Creek Pros. This class will ACE it with the kids as they VOLLEY the day away. An emphasis on good form, concentration and the rules of the game while the teaching professionals customize the curriculum to ensure all students get the most from their instruction.


EARLY YEARS SPANISH
(Grades K-4, $)

Didn’t commit to the dual-language program? Let ASC help your child get exposure to a second language while they are young and their minds can adopt it best! Using a combination of movement, music, art and games, let your child learn and enjoy the beauty of the Spanish language with Ole’s unique instructional method. Classes are small to ensure good adoption, and this class is very popular in HP’s non-dual-language schools. .


HEADING TO BROADWAY LITTLE MERMAID
(Grades 1-5 , $)

Is Under the Sea where you want to be? Don’t be a Poor Unfortunate Soul, become Part of Our World I this exciting class. Join Skyline Studios this fall and let your child’s creativity take flight through dance, drama and singing. Jump into the magical world of musical theater by exploring songs, scenes and dances from Little Mermaid Jr. Taught through theater games, and group activities, weeks of practice culminate in a group performance. Your child will be ready to be a STAR!!!

CHEER

Offered by Chicago Loves Dance, in this high energy class students will follow along to interactive dance leads, learn choreography to newest pop/dance songs, show off their creativity in free-style dance circles and more. CLD prides themselves on teaching the self-esteem and socialization needed in everyday life through the activity of dance and performance. For the last 15 minutes of class on the final day of the program, parents will be welcome to watch their children show off all their hard work. Our students have given SPECTACULAR performances at Red Oak Assemblies!


PLAY HARD HOOPS!
(Grades 1-5, $)

We are excited to bring back hugely popular PHH with David Adelman. This class teaches basketball skills and fundamentals while also stressing sportsmanship, teamwork and the benefits of a positive attitude. Focus is on ball handling, passing, shooting, lay-ups, and defense as well as rules of the game and strategy. This is a great class for all levels of ability and has been a Red Oak favorite for many ASC sessions! Teams are stratified by skill so your child gets the best experience, coaching and learning possible!


IMPROV in the ACTORS STUDIO
(Grades K-5 , $)

Jibberish day? Snowball? Believe it or not these teach Self confidence, public speaking skills, listening skills, observational skills, communication and teamwork. The skills learned in improv benefits your child for the rest of their life - BUT best of all, they'll have a great time learning them! Not only for kids who want to be actors; this training is proven to: develop critical listening skills and enhance verbal communication skills, produce greater empathy for others and teach children negotiation and teamwork while working in a high energy environment playing games as an ensemble. Its on the wall of Second City..Tina Fey preaches it: Improv shows there are no mistakes, just opportunities! With enough signup, we’ll split the class into “little actors” (gr K-2) and “The Actors Studio” (gr 3-5). This class was a HUGE success last spring, and is taught by the owner herself, a Second City alum.


CHESS WIZARDRY CLUB!
(Grades 1-5, $)

Did you know Chess can raise your IQ? Uses both sides of the brain? Improves memory, problem solving skills and concentration? Well it does – all the while building strategic thinking and improving memory. We’re bringing chess back to Red Oak after a few years’ hiatius so our kids’ “dendrites” can grow. I didn’t know what that was either, but those are brain impulses and chess helps those! Chess has had a huge resurgence in popularity especially on the north shore and Red Oak is able to bring it back using Chess Wizards!
